Funding Request

Overview

To complete the Funding Request form you will need:

  • The energy assessment reports (“D Audit”) provided by your Energy Advisor
  • Quotes from contractors for the work you are planning
  • A void check for the account where you want the funding deposited by e-transfer

If you have not already done so, we highly recommend connecting with your Retrofit Coach to discuss your project. They can help you review your energy assessment, contractor quotes and confirm your project will meet the program requirements.

What’s next?

Upon receipt of your Funding Request, BetterHomes Huntsville will review your form to:

  • Confirm the eligibility of the improvements you intend to install;
  • Verify the reasonability of the retrofit and labour costs by consulting manufacturer pricing and prevailing labour rates;
  • Derive the funding amount up to the maximum of $40,000 and a minimum of $5,000;
  • Determine what BetterHomes Huntsville incentives you qualify for.
  • Prepare a Property Owner Agreement (“POA”) for the homeowners, municipality and county to review and sign.

All amounts are estimates and will be finalized once the work is finished and you have submitted a Project Completion Report. This review will take up to 10 business days.

Once all property owner(s) and the Town of Huntsville have signed the POA, the applicant can then:

  • Proceed with engaging contractors and completing the improvements; and
  • Be eligible for an initial disbursement of 50% of eligible funds.

Loan terms

Better Homes Huntsville offers loan terms in 5-year increments, aligned with the longest expected useful life of the intended improvements, up to a maximum of 20 years. BetterHomes Huntsville offers a competitive interest rate of 2.0%. The interest rate is fixed and will not fluctuate over the term. At any time during the term of the loan, the Property Owner may pay the outstanding balance, without penalty, to clear the loan from the property. A shorter loan term means larger annual payments, but less interest paid overall.

    Building Permits

    These questions will enable us to determine if you need a building permit for your project.
    Does the project include a structural change?
    e.g., increasing in width of existing window, or replacement of beams, load-bearing walls, roof trusses, etc.
    Does the project include alterations or improvements to the building envelope?
    e.g., insulating exterior walls, or installing vapor or air barrier systems
    Does the project include a full replacement of the existing heating system or ventilation system?
    e.g., scopes beyond furnace replacement as the main source of heat
    Does the project include the altering of an unfinished/unhabitable area?
    e.g., alteration to an unfinished basement
    Does the project include any structural support on the existing structure?
    e.g., rooftop solar panels, thermal systems, or shading systems
